Conflict of Interest Policy

  • Conflict of interest exists, when a Presidential Council member has a financial or personal relationship with a commercial entity (e.g., pharmaceutical, medical device company) or a organization that could influence their role in the Presidential Council. 
  • All PC members must disclose any relevant conflicts immediately as they arise.

 Qualities and Expectations from the CEORL- HNS PC Member

All elected or appointed members of the CEORL-HNS Presidential Council (PC)  are expected to meet the following qualities and responsibilities.

General Qualities:

  • Be committed to the Confederation and its mission, willing to consider the perspectives from all segments and serve the broad agenda and strategic plan of the Confederation.
  • Be willing and able to devote the necessary time throughout the entire elected/appointed term of service for Confederation business.
  • Possess the highest ethical standards and be recognized and respected by peers as a leader in otolaryngology- head and neck surgery.
  • Be free of any significant conflict of interest and disclose all relevant financial and intellectual relationships in advance.
  • Be registered or licensed as a Medical Practitioner specializing in Otolaryngology in good standing with Medical Council or licencing board in country of medical practice.

 Responsibilities:

 Meetings
  • Attend all in person meetings of the PC Council  and other conference calls or other meetings as required.
  • May be excused from attending meetings by the CEORL-HNS President with advance written notice.
  • Carefully review PC meeting agendas, minutes and financial reports; follow up on irregularities. 
Vision
  • Ensure to follow goals and mission of the organization.
  • Anticipate change and proactively establish broad directions and/or guidelines to address issues and meet the clinical needs of the public, as well as the clinical and non-clinical needs of Confederation members
  • Ensure that all deliberations and decisions contribute to the Confederation mission and strategic goals.
 Fiduciary Obligations and Governance
  • Review, be knowledgeable of, and externally promote the organization’s mission
  • Comply with the constitution of Confederation, bylaws and other important procedures to protect the rights of members and to ensure appropriate handling of issues.
  • Protect confidentiality of discussions.
  • Support other designated board positions and/or representatives that report to or receive advice from the PC Council members, to ensure they fulfill their charge and meet their objectives.
 Other
  • Promote the organization’s image by staying informed and representing the Confederation to others.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff as needed.
  • Meet appointed deadlines.
  • Recruit and orient future members and leaders.
  • Perform standing duties and responsibilities within the scope of their function as well as incidental duties on request, and in agreement with, the PC Council
  • Treat other PC members and other representatives with respect and courtesy.
