Croatian Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery

Otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery in Croatia has an institutional tradition of 130 years. In 1926, Ante Sercer founded the multidisciplinary oto-neuro-ophthalmology society, which also organized the first congress in 1931 in Zagreb, and in 1945, the Croatian ORL Society was founded.

Today, the Croatian Society has almost 350 active members, about 260 specialists and about 80 residents. Subspecialty societies and sections are very active: Croatian Society for Audiology and Phoniatrics, Croatian Society for Cochlear Implantation, Croatian Society for Vestibular Rehabilitation, Section for Otology and Neuro-otology of Croatian ENT Society, Croatian Rhinology Society and Croatian Society for Head and Neck Tumors. Those societies organize national and international courses, symposia and congresses.

At the congress held in 2023 in Pula, we had a residents’ section with oral presentations. 31 residents participated and the three best papers and presentations were selected. Those residents were rewarded with a trip to the 7th Congress of CEORL-HNS in Dublin, and their works were accepted for presentation at that congress. In addition, a lottery was organized at the get together party and one resident received a free registration fee from the CEORL-HNS society and submitted a paper that was accepted and will be presented in Dublin.
